Confirmed So Far
(Stay Tuned For More Announcements)
KING CURLY - Steve Appel - aka King Curly
King Curly www.kingcurly.com is contemporary Australian
songwriting at its finest, voiced through a highly original, loose and sparse style of
instrumentation aptly termed "Garage-Cabaret".
Their work is a refreshing
anomaly on our musical landscape. Its apparent creative naivety masks
exceptional skill that draws as much from the tragically misunderstood Tiny
Tim as the gritty storytelling of Lou Reed.
Hailing from the Blue Mountains, King Curly is the invention of Steve Appel,
one of the best-kept secrets of Australian music. For six years, his slowly
evolving, chiefly
acoustic ensemble has been quietly capturing the hearts of
some of biggest names in the business, from the East Coast Blues & Roots
Festival to Woodford and the Port Fairy Folk Festival to Perth's
International Festival of the Arts and beyond.
A recommendation from Australia's own music icon - Paul Kelly, says "It
seems to me a crying shame that two of the most extraordinary Australian
records released in recent years have gone largely unheralded in this
country. King Curly slipped in and out of my town two weeks ago like ghosts.
Some of us who were at the visitation are still walking around as if in a
spell. Their name should be shouted from the roof-tops, their records
playing in the cafes, their songs on the radio."
KATE ROWE
www.katerowe.com
"Listening to Kate sing is like drinking Baileys-it's sweet and mellow, but there's a kick underneath!"
As the daughter of award-winning children's book author Emily Rodda,
Kate Rowe assumed she would grow up to write books too. Instead, she
writes and sings sweet, quirky songs with a strong fantasy and
story-telling element. Her recent performances include a sell-out
concert at the Clarendon, Katoomba, and two nights supporting the
acclaimed Spooky Men's Chorale at the Vanguard, Newtown.
A Blue Mountains resident, Kate began performing in Paris in 2001,
where she worked as an English teacher. She has also co-written a children's
musical and is currently working on her intergalactic pop album "The
Dream Machine"
THE SESSION MEN
www.myspace.com/thesessionmen
The Session Men perform an energetically entertaining act, mixing cabaret swing with funk,
French pop with hip gypsy trend, waltz with audience. We tried looking emotional but it hurt
too much, so now we're just having a good time. Nevertheless we provide a very tight program.
The singer and his guitar are French, the bass player is English but plays a great slide guitar &
the drummer is an aristocrat from West Sydney. All songs are original and completely our own. We have
been accused of playing in a European style (as if it meant anything...), and we have renounced this
scabrous rumour on occasion. We have also been accused of being very good musicians, working too regularly,
and have taken that to court. After all, we're only heavy chai drinkers.
HALENGRAY
www.myspace.com/halengray
Described as 'intense, raw, innovative and souful'. Halengray are one of
the most exciting duo's to hit the scene in years. With Eben Hale on
acoustic guitar, vocals and foot percussion and Rob Gray on blues
harp, vocals and mouth percussion, together these guys produce a big
sound!
Eben and Rob draw from a wide range of musical genres such as Rhythm &
Blues, Soul, Funk, Rock and Country. With strong original material and
covering songs from some of their favorite artists, they have a
repertoire that will get people on the dance floor.
'THE MONASTERIO BROTHERS' : Erik, Victor & Grigota Monasterio
www.freewebs.com/victormonasterio
The inspiration of this music is drawn from a close relationship between the musicans and the mountains.
Erik, Victor and Grigota Monasterio present a unique collection of original and traditional South American
music interpreted with panpipes, flutes, strings and percussion inspired by the isolated regions of the world.
BABALU
www.geocities.com/babalu_australia
This eight-piece Sydney salsa outfit is led by the impressive phrasings of Columbian singer Irma Monsalve Botero.
The steady staccato percussion keeps your hips tilting ever so slightly while your feet stutter-step in sync. The
bold blasts of the tight horn section add just the right amount of Cuban seasoning, igniting the spirit and soul
of Latin American dance.
Babalu specialises in World Music Festivals like ‘World Eleven’ and the ‘Sydney Bacardi Latino’ where they
played in front of an audience of more than 20.000 people.

BLUE SWIMMERS
The Blue Swimmers are a 5 piece band that has been playing clubs and festivals since 2002.
They play original songs about Life, Love, Aliens and Pricks in Porsches. Combined with great riffs
and big harmonies the "Swimmers", as they are affectionately known, surf between Rock, Blues, Jazz,
Reggae, Funk and Roots music. Truly a unique contemporary rock band.
CLUB MATOTO
www.clubmatoto.com
Club Matoto play percussion live, fast and loud. They play their own unique and trashy western suburbs blend of
hard-core drum beats mixed in with a touch of singing, didge and samples. They have been the headline act for the last
few years at Katoomba’s biggest event, the ‘Winter Magic Festival’.
PERRY MASON
'Pery Mason' describe themselves as "acoustic rock on steroids". This Five piece band formed a year ago from the
merging of two acoustic duos and a solo artist. Already their energetic live show is making a big impact on the Sydney
music scene.
