Spread the word- Beta International Climbing Festival are still looking for entrants for “The Beta Short Film Festival” to be held on the events opening night on Friday 8th October 2021.
The Beta Short Film Festival is geared to climbers, outdoor enthusiasts and filmmakers showcasing climbing and outdoor adventure from around Australia and the world.
Filmmakers are asked to submit a film for any of the following categories;
- Very Short Films – General – At least 60 seconds, no longer than 4 minutes
- Very Short Films – Themed – At least 60 seconds, no longer than 4 minutes
- Short Films – General - At least 4 minutes, no longer than 9 minutes
- Short Films – Themed - At least 4 minutes, no longer than 9 minutes
Prizes will be awarded to the winner, runner-up and peoples choice for each category.
The 2021 theme is "Connection". The theme is open to creative interpretation, though the theme must be obvious to qualify for the Themed category.
Films must be submitted to Beta International Climbing Festival no later than midnight on the 1st September 2021.
Submissions are encouraged for all levels of filmmakers, including first-timers. Films can be shot on go-pro, smart phones, cameras, video cameras etc.

Terms and Conditions -
- Due to the number of entrants and available screening time, some films may not be aired at the Beta International Climbing Festival. Films will be shortlisted by Event Organisers.
- Shortlisted films will be aired at Beta International Climbing Festival, where a panel of judges will select winners and runners-up. Peoples-choice awards will also exist.
- Film-makers will be notified in writing as to whether their film will or will not be aired at Beta International Climbing Festival.
- Any opening and closing credits must be kept to a maximum of 45 seconds total
- The short film can be any genre and may be a documentary, fiction, live-action, animation, comedy or any combination but must be focused on climbing and/or outdoor adventure.
- Films must not be shown online or made available for public viewing prior to completion of the Festival.
- Ensure that all content in your film (including footage, music, images etc) is your own or if you own copyright or permission to use others content.
- By submitting an entry, the filmmaker(s) give permission for the event organisers to use all submitted materials, in any and all forms of media for the express purpose of festival promotion and publicity.
- Films with any graphic violence, cultural insensitivities, racism, sexism, or offensive content will not be accepted
- Winners will be picked live at the event by a judging panel selected by the organisers. Panel will be announced prior to the festival
- First place, runner-up and peoples choice in each category will receive a prize
- Shortlisted film-makers will be requested to prepare a 15-30 second clip or develop a holding slide with an educational message relating to environment, inclusiveness or community within climbing. More information will be provided shortly.
